Every year, the Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee awards seven grants to enable young, recent postdoctoral students to gain international experience abroad early in their careers. The committee is looking for young postdoctoral researchers who have shown outstanding ability in research, knowledge transfer and have a demonstrated high degree of social commitment. The fellowship is open to all academic disciplines.
After having been recommended by two professors, every candidate is required to obtain reference letters from three researchers, two of whom must be working at a Dutch academic institution. The candidates for the Niels Stensen Fellowship will approach the three referees themselves.
The letters of reference (maximum one page) should focus on the personal qualities of the candidate. They are to be written on the university’s or research institute’s letterhead paper and should be personally signed by the referee.
As a referee, you are requested to send your letter of reference directly to the Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee. The committee will not share the letters with anyone, including the candidates.
The reference letter may be scanned and sent by email to: email@example.com

“To me, a reference is a vital element in the selection procedure. Referees have the advantage of providing a first-hand appreciation of candidates’ professional and personal dimensions, while oftentimes candidates themselves are also too modest to highlight their main achievements. As a referee myself, I value the chance to praise a deserving candidate and contribute to their professional accomplishments.”
