How to apply

Every year, the Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee awards seven grants to enable young, recent postdoctoral students to gain international experience abroad early in their careers.

The committee is looking for young postdoctoral researchers who have shown outstanding ability in research, knowledge transfer and have a demonstrated high degree of social commitment. The fellowship is open to all academic disciplines.

The application process takes about eight months and consists of the following steps:

Nomination by two recommending professors

Guidelines for recommendations

Professors at Dutch universities are invited to nominate candidates for a Niels Stensen Fellowship.

Deadline: 1 May 2024

Application by candidate

The Niels Stensen Fellowship will invite recommended candidates to complete an online application form.

Deadline: 23 June 2024

Referee letters from three academics

The candidate will ask three academics for a reference letter. Referees will send their letter directly to the Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee.

Deadline: 1 July 2023

Selection of fellows.

The Niels Stensen Fellowship Committee will review the applications and will award seven grants. The candidates will be informed by mail by 31 October. After 31 October, it is not possible to give any indication about the outcome beforehand.
