Leon Rinkel is currently finalizing his PhD at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers, location AMC. His research focusses on the diagnosis and treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Despite important progress in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke over the past years, it remains one of the leading causes of death and disability worldwide. Therefore, further improvement is essential to increase patient outcomes following ischemic stroke. One of the goals is to provide patients with a tailored, optimal treatment strategy.
The Niels Stensen Fellowship allows Leon to perform research in one of the leading stroke centers in the world: Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Canada. Here, he will conduct research which aims to optimize the treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke by allowing for individualized treatment decisions of a novel stroke therapy.
